Susie - Dog Trainer

About Susie+Cooper

Almost immediately from birth, my path became intertwined with paw prints.

Arriving home from the hospital, welcomed by the presence of my first canine confidant, King. A remarkable Kelpie x Corgi, King’s companionship initiated a connection that would shine for 14 years. We were inseparable, creating a deep bond that inspired my career choices.

The impression left by King’s steadfast companionship ignited a profound passion within me—a desire to work with animals, particularly with our loyal canine companions.

Yet, as life’s turns often dictate, I temporarily diverged from this path. However, in 2012, a pivotal moment arrived when I embarked on a journey of education and growth, commencing my studies in Animal Studies. Clawbaby Pet Services was born, dedicated to pets’ well-being and enriching their lives.

My subsequent evolution phase occurred early in 2015, as I attained my Dog Training certification. Fueled by an unwavering commitment to pawfect my craft and deep dive into the intricacies of dog behaviour, I began a quest to learn from many amazing trainers.

As my passion project rapidly evolved, it became an integral chapter in my professional journey as a dog trainer, fueling a renewed sense of purpose.

The pivotal year of 2020 saw a significant milestone emerge: I consciously chose to separate Dog Training from my original business, leading to King’s K9 Dog Training as an autonomous venture.

Serving the Geelong, Bellarine, Surf Coast, and Golden Plains regions, King’s K9 Dog Training offers inclusive training solutions designed to benefit both dogs and their human companions.

Grommet King's 9 Dog Training

Grommet entered our life as a foster dog with a mission to help him with some house manners before venturing into his new home.

We nicknamed him Grommet, as his original name didn’t suit him and then proceeded to fall for this goofball and decided that suited him best and that he was staying!

Stay turned on our social pages and blogs as he begins his adventures with King’s K9 Dog Training.

Mojo King's 9 Dog Training

My precious pup, Mojo, has filled my life with joy and invaluable experiences. Originating from Trabajo Kelpies in Bairnsdale, Mojo catapulted into my world, shaking it up and cementing his place as my soul dog!

Guiding his training journey has been an education in itself. Witnessing his evolution from a playful Dumpling to a spirited Piranha and then a whirlwind Tornado has been thrilling and exciting, with many moments of fighting the impulse to throw my hands up in despair too.

This adventure with Mojo has undeniably enhanced my understanding of dog training and behaviour.

He is diligently mastering the art of being a helper dog for King’s K9 Dog Training, following in the pawprints of his predecessor, Cooper.

Mojo’s achievements speak volumes about his potential. He has conquered the ACSW Noseworks Odour Recognition Test in Anise and Birch, showcasing his exceptional olfactory talents. His passion project extends to herding, with titles including his Herding Test and Herding Pre-Trial Test with the Victorian Herding Association. He is now training up for his A Sheep Test Herding Trial.

Our journey together has taught me invaluable lessons about patience, resilience, and the power of the human-canine bond. Mojo isn’t just a dog; he’s a cherished family member, a loyal friend, and an inspiration that drives me to be a better dog trainer daily.

Cooper

(4/2012) - 3/9/2016 - 22/4/2023
Cooper King's K9 Dog Training

Cooper’s journey with me began at the age of 4.5 years. Coming from less-than-ideal circumstances and grappling with a history of resorting to aggressive behaviour to safeguard his space. Behind this behaviour, Cooper was a remarkable soul who continues to be my dog-training inspiration. He was my “weirdo,” my heart dog, and a steadfast companion.

Together, we embarked on a journey of healing, growth, and unwavering companionship.

Cooper’s story is one of resilience and triumph. We dedicated ourselves to his rehabilitation, attending numerous dog training seminars and workshops, paw in hand. These efforts were rewarded as we reshaped his behaviour in the presence of new people and unfamiliar situations and built his confidence.

In March 2023, our journey faced an unexpected turn when Cooper was diagnosed with Lymphoma. His courage and spirit shone even brighter as he confronted this battle, and we worked through his bucket list, making as many happy memories as possible until his last days.

Supported by the caring team at Cherished Pets Vets, he peacefully crossed the Rainbow Bridge on April 22, 2023.

Throughout his life, Cooper extended his support to me and countless other dogs through our rehabilitation work, where he assisted in helping dogs with over-excitement tendencies or dog-to-dog reactivity.

Cooper’s achievements include passing his ACSW Nosework Odour Recognition Test in both Birch and Anise. Furthermore, he attained his Novice and Intermediate Trick Titles, showcasing his versatile talents and indomitable spirit.

I am profoundly grateful for being part of Cooper’s journey, which embodies transformation, resilience, and the remarkable bond between humans and canines.
